Asian Grill Festival Redux at Shiro

2 years since I was first invited to Asian Grill festival at Shiro in 2012, I was invited again recently to Asian Grill Festival Redux at Shiro Bengaluru. One of our favorite Chefs from Bengaluru, Chef Priyank Chouhan hosted us for a lovely lunch on a Saturday afternoon on the open air terrace of Shiro at UB City, Bengaluru. As most of you know, Chef Priyank Singh Chouhan is the Area Kitchen Manager for Shiro, Trader Vics & Mai Tai lounge. He has been associated with JSM Corporation Private Ltd. for past 4 years. He is one of the most cheerful and talented chefs in the country!

The award winning Asian restaurant, Shiro offers delectable oriental delicacies and fabulous cocktails, coupled with elegance and chic of the Zen-inspired interiors presenting a memorable dining experience. You have a choice of teppanyaki tables or the lush outdoor terrace area where you can raise a toast to fine wine from around the world, food and music. We mainly stayed in the lush outdoor terrace area where we sampled some fine fare from the Asian Grill festival menu. Asian Grill Festival is on from 12th November to 13th December 2014.

We started with Hanoi Chicken Skewers which is made of Minced Chicken, Coconut Milk, Fresh Red Chillies and served with Indonesian Peanut Sauce. I loved the perfectly grilled skewers on a cold afternoon.

Next was Vietnamese Grilled Chicken which is Chicken Thigh marinated with Sweet Chilli & Sriraja and served with Oyster Sauce. I found this to be a bit too sweet for my liking.

My favorite prawns were the next in form of Thai Chilli & Herb Prawns. This was grilled prawns marinated with fresh red chillies, mint & coriander and lemon juice. I loved the succulent taste of the prawns grilled to perfection.

For the meat lover in me, I tried out the beef tenderloin in the form of Green Curried Tenderloin. This was tenderloin tournedos marinated with in house green curry paste and coconut milk. I found out this was a bit too chewy and could have been grilled much well. Or there could have been smaller pieces.

How can we forget sea food like Fish when we are at an oriental restaurant like Shiro? The most popular Basa fish in Bengaluru was presented in the form of Nahm Jhim Grilled Basa which is Vietnamese Basa marinated with Oyster Sauce, Fresh Red Chillies, Coriander & Basil and grilled to perfection.

If you love Salmon, you can’t miss out on the Miso & Orange Glazed Salmon Steak at Shiro’s Asian Grill festival. This is Norwegian Salmon marinated with Miso & Orange Glaze and Ichimi Powder. Honestly I was disappointed with the taste of this. I think this could be perfected in a much better way.

To complete the spread of non-vegetarian grills at Shiro, we tried the Grilled Lemongrass Chicken. This is chicken thigh marinated with lemongrass, coriander, fresh red chillies and tamarind (a staple South Indian ingredient!). I loved this combination and would definitely say this is one of the best items on the menu!

No meal at Shiro is complete without trying the legendary and trademark Mojitos like Fig Mojito. No wonder that Shiro has always been getting nominated and winning the Best Pan Asian restaurant in Bangalore in The Times Food & Nightlife Awards over the past few years. This year too, you can vote for it by just giving a missed call on 080-67434030

Best of the food bloggers in Bangalore had joined Chef Priyank and me in tasting the Asian Grill menu at Shiro and we would definitely recommend the same to everyone to try it out between 12th November to 13th December 2014. Don’t miss it!

The feeling at Shiro is definitely eclectic: Japanese, Chinese and Balinese elements come together to make the whole dining experience a warm, engaging and tropical experience. The restaurant is conceptualized to set off the mind in myriad ways, with its dramatic soaring interiors, vast choice of food and exhaustive drinks menu. This luxury lounge has a sensuous feel and has been built to represent an Asian Castle, complete with water flows, low seating, niche spaces and mellow lighting and not to forget the Buddha statues!
