Black Dog Scotch Tasting at Habanero, Whitefield, Bangalore

Black Dog Scotch Whisky has a tradition of over 130 years. The birth of the great Scotch Whisky took place over 130 years ago when James MacKinlay of the second generation of the Leith Scotch Whisky blending family launched the masterful whisky by the name of Millard Black Dog. It is said that in the year 1883 Walter Millard, a Scot from the British East India Company came searching for the perfect Scotch and eventually discovered the great taste of this whisky in these misty shores of Scotland. Being a keen angler, Walter Millard named the whisky Black Dog in honour of his favourite salmon fishing fly used in the Spey and Tay rivers of Scotland since the early 19th century.

It is very important to know how to taste the legendary Black Dog Scotch Whisky. So it was wonderful when we had a Black Dog Scotch Tasting session at Habanero, Whitefield, Bangalore recently. Habanero is a tex-mex place and has wonderful food which pair very well with Black Dog Scotch Whisky. The 3 variants of Black Dog Scotch Whisky we tasted were Black Dog Centenary Scotch (Black Dog 8 years old), Black Dog Deluxe Scotch (Black Dog 12 years old) and Black Dog Reserve Scotch (Black Dog 18 years old). There was also Black Dog Quintessence Scotch (Black Dog 21 years old) which is one of the rarest scotch in the world and only around 3000 bottles were produced world wide. We were told about the history of Black Dog and how it came into being. We were told how it is important to pour the Black Dog Scotch in the right glass, how to smell it (say “hello to it”) twice and then have a quick swirl after having a sip so that the flavors sink in. For the Black Dog Centenary Scotch, we were told to swirl the Scotch on our tongues for a minimum of 8 seconds. For Black Dog Deluxe Scotch, it was a minimum of 12 seconds and for Black Dog Reserve Scotch, it was a minimum of 18 seconds.

When we smelled the Black Dog Scotch whisky, we got a lot of intense aromas from it. We got a little bit of citrus fruit flavor, we got a little of orange fruit flavors too. Black Dog Reserve Scotch Whisky had an effect on our palate of amazing silky texture and smooth finish. Black Dog Centenary Scotch Whisky had a Citrusy effect on our palate. After the great tasting session, we were all given certificates of appreciation. We are all now certified Black Dog Scotch connoisseurs! Enjoy the video which shows you the amount of fun we had while appreciating the world’s best Scotch Whisky!
