‘Launchpad’ is an initiative by The Bombay Store to promote young brands and designers by showcasing their collections at select stores. This has been doing tremendously well. After the success of the  first phase in Mumbai with over 12 brands; they have decided to take this initiative one level up by taking it to Bangalore too!

The Bombay Store is passionate about new artists & innovative products. So they are giving talented designers or brands a chance to showcase their merchandise at their store at 1 MG Road Mall in Bangalore. This month, they have 2 brands that are being showcased at 1 MG Road Mall, Trinity Circle, Bangalore. They are ‘Manera‘ from 10th to 20th October and ‘Mystic Hues‘ from 23rd October to 3rd November. During the showcase, The Bombay Store promotes these young brands on Facebook, Twitter, their website, conduct in-store promotions and also send emailers to their entire database.

Instrumental in the launch of popular fashion and lifestyle brands like Tantra, Provogue, The Elephant Company and more, The Bombay Store is highly recommended by the Travelers’ guide “Lonely Planet” and rated as one of the best shopping destinations by Trip Advisor. Commenting on the main idea behind initiating Launchpad, Bejan Bharucha, President – Operations, The Bombay Store, said: “The main idea behind this activity is to give a platform to brands, young designers and artists to showcase their products to our clientele. This initiative has also given us an opportunity to find new talent and also offer something new to our customers. Even our customers are quite happy with this initiative.”

Speaking about the evolution of this initiative, Bharucha said: “We have given space to brands earlier too. This time we thought we should make this an initiative that gives everybody a chance to participate. In the near future, we want to take this initiative to the next level by organizing it at our other store locations.”

Manera is the entity that allows Mansi Mehta to work with fabrics, that have always been the pride of India and revive the dying crafts of the artists and artisans. Each line/design evolves to a new and different outcome every time, owing to her journey which is influenced by her interactions that she has experienced from different parts of life. Manera is like a fabric where her designs are the ‘Warf’ and the artists/artisans are the ‘Wheft’.

Whats new in Manera?

Manera has quite recently ventured into Home Accessories. Mansi Mehta couldn’t contain her passion for the beautiful Indian textiles only to clothing, so she wanted to take it a step further. Her aim is to showcase the textiles and embroidery styles in everyday utilitarian products making them signature pieces in the form of wall frames, traditional trays, picture frames, key Holders and Exquisite Jewelry Boxes.

As a Designer/Artist, Mansi Mehta has always been passionate about art. Painting has been a hobby that was close to her since her childhood. As an artist she tried putting her thoughts, ideas and stories into Canvas. She has been painting professionally for over a year now and is loving every bit of it!!!! She would love to hear from you. PVR bluO, in association with Lufthansa ended its first edition of Corporate Bowling Tournament with a bang at PVR bluO, Orion Mall, Bangalore. PVR bluO announced ‘SOLUTION’ as the winning team of the country’s biggest amateur Corporate Bowling Tournament, after an exciting competition in the evening. With a score of 1135, the team won the grand prize of Lufthansa Airlines, Return tickets to Europe along with other prizes from Sahara NRG, Renault, Woodland, Swadhee Spa, Sports fit, Universal music, LIC, ORIX, Gift Big, Carlsberg Club Glasses, PVR Cinemas, Mc Cain, Ayesha and bluO. ‘E&Y MOBSTER’, the 1st runner up scored 1089 whereas ‘TECHNOCARE’ 2nd Runner Up team stood at a score of 1062.The first edition of the tournament witnessed 51 corporate teams participating in the 5-week long tournament. All the participants of 20 teams, who were in the finale, were excited and exhibited an expression of enthusiasm & zeal to win the tournament.

On the occasion, Mr. Vishal Sawhney, COO, PVR bluO commented, “Taking our legacy forward from Delhi, we are overwhelmed with the response from Bangalore. I would like to congratulate the winning team and thank all the companies who participated in the tournament and made it into a huge success. With Bangalore being known as the IT Hub, our idea to organize such tournaments in the city, was to help increase productivity at workplace and to create engagement between supervisors and employees. We realise the importance and benefits of employee engagement, thus we feel pleased to offer our ambit of space as a platform to various companies. Seeing such an exceptional participation level at the first edition itself, we aim to grow bigger in the coming years and plan to take such tournament in other cities where bluO has made its presence.”

The participants of the finale were seen having a great time & grooving on the music by Rishab Joshi from Lost Stories. The band has produced official remixes for Grammy Nominees such as BT, Nadia Ali and Andy Moor and have singles featured on various mix compilations such as Richard Durand’s In Search of Sunrise, Paul Okaenfold’s Dj Box, and more. The first edition of the Corporate Bowling Tournament ended on a pleasant note and the crowd witnessed a truly delightful experience.

For the second year running, Hard Rock Café (HRC), Shiro and California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) are back with a special menu inspired by MasterChef Australia’s current season on TV. While the CPK is offering dishes such as roasted tomato and arugula pizza, creamy artichoke penne and five spice lemon garlic baked basa, Shiro is bringing in pan Asian flavours such as chilli popcorn chicken, steamed fish in banana leaf, prawns with kaffir lime and prawn Thai curry. The HRC is creating the desserts MasterChef style with choices such as fruit and chocolate tulle or cheesecake and vanilla pana cotta with macaroons.

California Pizza Kitchen is celebrating MasterChef Australia (MCA) season five by bringing to its patrons, the best of MCA dishes. With a special menu addition, it is serving specially crafted dishes that you might have seen in the immunity challenge or the invention test of the ongoing season of MasterChef Australia. Guests are being invited to relish the exotic Italian preparations such as Roasted Tomato and Aragula Pizza, Creamy Artichoke Penne and 5 Spice Lemon Garlic Baked Basa that will be served right from the CPK MasterChef kitchen till December 2013.

Here are some recipes from Master Chef Australia inspired dishes at California Pizza Kitchen which Chef Jai of Indiranagar branch in Bangalore showed us:

ROASTED TOMATO AND MUSHROOM PIZZA

Ingredients Station Measure
Dough 120 gm
Sundried tomato marinara 30 ml
Grated Cottage Cheese/ ricotta cheese 30 gm
Mozzarella Shredded 1/2 cup
cherry tomato halves sautéed 1/2 cup
sliced mushroom sauteed 1/2 cup
Garnish
Aragula / Rocket leaves 1/2 cup
parmesan shaved 1/2 cup
Method:
1. Roll the dough on a floured surface to a 9” base2. Mix the sundried tomato marinara & grated cottage cheese and spread it all over the pizza base till the edges.
2. Add the mozzarella cheese and top the pizza with the cherry tomato & mushroom mix.
3. Use the standard pizza cooking procedure until the pizza is crisp & bubbly.
4. Remove from the oven, slice into equal pieces and garnish with aragula, parmesan and olive oil

 

CREAMY ARTICHOKE PENNE 

 
Ingredients Station Measure
Pre-Cooked Penne 200 gm
Extra Virgin Olive Oil 30 ml ladle
Sliced Onions 1/4 cup
Chopped garlic 1 tbl
Red Chilli Flakes 1/2 tsp
Pasta cream 200 ml
Sliced Artichokes 1/2 cup
Lemon Zest 1 tsp
Soya sauce 1 tbl
Grated Parmesan 1 tbl
Parsley Chopped 1 tbl
Crushed Pepper 1/8 tsp
Method:
1. Heat a frying pan over medium heat & add the extra virgin olive oil.
2. Add the onions, garlic and chilli flakes and saute on low heat. Add cream.
3. Add the artichokes and lemon zest and cook further.
4. Re-Blanch pre-cooked pasta for 30 seconds. Drain pasta for 30 seconds.
5. Add the pasta to the sauce and toss through. Add lemon juice, chopped parsley, grated parmesan & crushed pepper & fold through.
6. Transfer to a warm pasta bowl and garnish with a parsley sprig and lime wedge

5 SPICE LEMON GARLIC BAKED BASA

 Station Measure  Ingredients
240 gm Basa Fillet
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tbl Unsalted Butter
1 tbl Minced Garlic
1 tsp Five Spice powder
1 half Lemon Juice
Garnish  
1 sprig Parsley Sprig
1 half Fresh Lemon

 Method

1. In a bowl mix the unsalted butter, salt, lemon juice, five spice powder & minced garlic.
2. Using gloved hands apply this mixture on both sides of a basa fillet.
3. Transfer the marinated fish to a non-stick pan and cook the fish in the pizza oven for 5 min.
4. After 5 min, check the doneness of the fish and cook for another 1 min if required.
5. Also, check the internal temperature of the fish with a thermometer to ensure that the fish is cooked.
6. Once done carefully place the fish on one side of  plate. Garnish with half a lemon and parsley sprig. Serve with appropriate sides.

 

It was great to also try our hand at making some of the Master Chef Australia inspired dishes with help from wonderful and friendly chefs from California Pizza Kitchen.

It was a wonderful afternoon to try out amazing dishes with great company (including families) of food connoisseurs from Bangalore!
